Project Description
We were commissioned by a homeowner in Queens, NY, who envisioned a radical transformation of their house. They wanted to enlarge the existing two-story house from cellar to attic, adding approximately 200 sft at each floor. They also wanted to convert the existing one-family house to a legal two-family house. How could we create a design that would accommodate this change, while enhancing the aesthetic and functional appeal of the house? How could we respect the existing character and layout of the space, while introducing a fresh and modern look.
Solution
We used our architectural design expertise to create a comprehensive solution that incorporated the enlarged layout into a cozy and code compliant two-family house. We also expedited the process by collaborating with SNR Construction, the contractor, and the building management to ensure a seamless and efficient execution of the work. We handled all the paperwork and permits to secure the approvals from the DOB. We performed regular site visits and inspections to oversee the quality and progress of the construction.
Project Outcome
We delivered the project on time and within the budget, exceeding the client’s expectations and satisfaction. The new house is more spacious and attractive, improving its value and livability. The design is elegant and harmonious, blending with the existing style and layout of the house. The new two-family house allows the homeowner to generate income from renting one of the units, while enjoying the comfort and convenience of the other.
